      Teaching content: This is a suggestion letter that Li Hua writes to his friend Tom.

      Teaching objectives:

      (1) knowledge objective:

      Students can know how to write a suggestion letter to a friend with the right tense and format.

      (2) ability objective:

      Students can improve their abilities of writing a suggestion letter, such as mastering the right writing format, using fixed collocation.

      (3) emotionobjective:

      By writing a suggestion letter to a friend, students can raise their awareness of caring about other and get interested in writing.

      Teaching key and difficult points:

      How to make students master the format of a suggestion letter and be able to write a letter to his/her friends.

      教学过程:

      Step1: Pre-writing (5mins)

      (1) Reading

      Students are asked to read the letter and find out the reason why Li Hua writes the letter to Tom.

      Students are asked to read the letter again and outline the basic elements of writing a letter with their partners.

      (2) Discussion

      Students are invited to discuss with their partners about what suggestions they can give to

      Tom if Tom says he wants to improve his oral English.

      (Justification: Reading and discussion let students know the basic elements of a letter and

      prepare for their writing.)

      Step2: while-writing (10mins)

      (1) Drafting

      Show students the correct format of a letter and ask students to write a draft.

      (2) Self-editing

      Offer the writing standard to students, make them revise their letters on their own, and make

      their attention focus on the following tips:

      Use the tense correctly.

      Use some good words and complex sentence patterns in the letter.

      (3) Peer-editing

      Ask students to edit their partner’s writings, check the ideas or the logical development, pay

      attention to the grammar, spelling and punctuation of their writings.

      (Justification: Drafting and editing make students write a letter with correct format and tense,

      grammar, spelling and cultivate students’ good writing habit.)

      Step3: Post-writing (5mins)

      Sample show

      Choose one or two students’ writings and show them to the whole class to find the advantages and disadvantages of them and give them some evaluations.

      (2) Revising

      Ask students to revise their articles according to the evaluations.

      (Justification: Sample show and revising help students to know the standard of an excellent writing and improve their own writing ability.)
